Advantages Of A Wireless Network For The Computers In Your Home

Today it seems that every family member has to have a Laptop, Notebook or a Desktop; even down to the three and four year old members. 

So with so many computers in one household what would be the advantage of setting up a wireless network?

First, let’s discuss just a little bit of what a wireless network is. As a very basic definition, wireless communication allows for the transfer of information over a short or long distance without the use of wires. 

All though wireless is used in the home for baby monitors, security systems, PDA, cell phones and other devices this article content is meant more in the terms of wireless computer networks in the home.

The primary reason that people first consider wireless networks in their home is to eliminate the tangled mess of cords everywhere. 

However, there are a number of other reasons for installing a wireless network.  Here are just a few: 

• Share a printer with multiple users, thereby saving money on the cost of multiple printers.
• Share a backup device with multiple users
• Mobility – Perhaps you would like to move out to the deck on a pretty day and work.
• Temporarily Bedridden – Perhaps you have had some surgery and need to be somewhat immobile for a while, then being able to surf the web from the bed breaks the boredom of watching TV all the time.  You might even continue to handle your work tasks from the bed.
• Handicapped – I have a friend who is wheelchair bound and being able to use his laptop from his wheelchair with a reduced trail of wires is a real plus.
• Privacy – Just to let household members surf the web in the privacy of their own room without the extra expense of multiple internet connections
• Sharing Files – when multiple users are connected to the same wireless network then file sharing becomes a lot easier
• Use Latest Wireless Devices – you will be able to take advantage of the newest and latest wireless technology in video cameras, digital cameras and multi-media receivers.
• If you are already using a wireless laptop computer then it is easier to use it in other Wi-Fi environments like the library, external office, airport terminal,  friends house or a coffee shop. 

 

Wireless Home Networks are not hard to setup but you do need to make sure that you have implemented proper security to protect your network from computer users outside your home.
