What Kind of Graphic Cards Should Not Be Overclocking?
Nowadays, video card overclocking has been a hot topic, but meanwhile we should think about that whether all video cards can be overclocked and whether there is any exception.
Generally, there are four elements together decide a good performance of the video adapter overclocking.
First, the card is best a well-produced one. A card with 0.11-micron advanced manufacturing process often has a huge overclocking space.
Second, it should have an excellent core and the memory with a corking good power supply capability.
Third, memory itself possessing great overclocking performance can increase your graphic card capability effectively.
Fourth, a favorable cooling system for the video adapter can ensure its stability as well as extend its life.
We can easily realize from above that not all graphic adapters are suitable to be overclocking. And it would be well not to let several types of cards as below run at a higher clock rate:
1. Cards with an inadequate cooling capability, which makes the card unable to meet the needs of a substantial overclocking.
2. Cards itself working in an extremely high clock rate
Obviously, the manufacturers have already helped overclock the card, for example, GF 7900 (560/1600MHZ), and GF7600 (6XX/1600MHZ).
3. Low-specification cards
For example, GF7300LE of GDDR3, many brands of this card can overclock from 500/900MHz to 600/1200MHz, but the improved features are indeed less than 10%.
4. Blurred cards
Blurred cards often couple with design problem or contain defect components.
5. Severely shrinking cards
These cards only offer very limited overclocking space and the stability is considerably poor, so overclocking would become a serious test to the power supply circuit.
6. Cards out of maintenance period.
Anyway, graphic card overclocking is not a mass movement; if the card is nice enough for your common use, there is no need to overclock in case of accidents.
