USB KVM Switch Control USB Enabled Computers with One Set of Peripherals

The KVM Switch is a piece of hardware that allows you to connect multiple computers and control them all via a single set of peripherals. In the past these peripheral devices have been PS2, but with newer technologies now available, the PS2 switch is being made redundant and is being replaced by the USB version. Still, the latter has some limitations like the restriction placed on it by the distance which USB can be extended. Fortunately, to overcome this, the CAT5 KVM was introduced. This combines the good features of both PS2 as well as USB and is compatible with both types of peripherals over much greater distances by using Cat5e/Cat6 UTP or STP cables. With the features and advantages now available, the USB KVM Switch has become the most popular. Using this KVM Switch, a user can control multiple USB/VGA enabled computers or servers with a single set of peripherals. Available in desktop and rack mountable versions, these devices come in 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 port form factors. Some versions can also be cascaded for larger configurations. Additional features available include audio and mic. These switches are compatible with almost all operating systems such as Windows, SUN and Linux. They also offer multi platform support and can be connected with PCs, IBMs, Dells, HP, Compac and SUN Microsystems. Among some of its key features are exercising control using front panel push buttons, on screen display or hot key combinations. Other important features of the USB KVM are easy installation, plug and play functionality and requirement of no additional software or drivers for operation. Hot pluggable, it does not require powering down the system or USB switch while adding or removing connected PCs. Equipped with built in micro processor for each port to emulate the boot up process, this device also has an auto scan mode to monitor servers at regular intervals ranging from 5 to 99 seconds. High quality video resolutions of 1920 x 1440 @ a bandwidth of 200 MHz are supported by them. It also allows a user to name servers up to 16 characters long. This USB KVM Switch is ideal in environments where multiple USB servers need to be managed from a single location.
