The Pros and Cons of Mobile Broadband
There are multiple options as to what you can use for internet access. You can go with broadband with a cable company, satellite internet, DSL, dial-up, wireless internet through an internet provider or mobile provider. Mobile broadband is a wireless internet ‘dongle' that you plug into a USB port, and use with a mobile phone carrier like Three, O2, T-Mobile or Virgin Mobile, and you can take it anywhere you go.
There are many reviews online on the mobile broadband card, but there are many factors to consider before taking the leap of faith in this service. One of the first things you have to consider is carrier. When you choose the provider you are going to sign up with, and yes, mobile broadband requires a 2 year mobile phone like contract, you have to look at service. You don't want to be excited that you now have wireless internet service and it turns out that you have completely no service with the carrier you chose. So go on each carrier's website, check out which one has the best coverage, and now you have your provider.
There are no unlimited plans for mobile broadband. Sprint, AT&T and Verizon each have $60 plans that each max out at 5GB. That means you can check e-mails, web surf, basic web usage would be covered under the 5GB, but as soon as you start downloading movies, pictures and music, you are gonna do over that 5GB limit and get charged extra. Another things to consider is what kind of computer you have. If you have a PC, then your choices are pretty much endless. But if you have a macbook or a mac desktop computer, stay away from T-Mobile broadband internet. T-Mobile doesn't work for Macs as of yet, so your best bet is to go with Sprint, AT&T or Verizon.
Mobile broadband is a great idea, if you don't have a need for gaming or any media purposes. It is the only device out there that you can take with you and virtually have internet connection practically anywhere you go, but obviously depends on the provider you choose.
