8 Signs of Spyware Detected on Computer
Spyware and adware are insidious little programs that are annoying and frustrating for any one that has to deal with their effects. They come secretly bundled with freeware and shareware or get downloaded with music, games, and screensavers unbeknownst to you and operate silently in the background, relaying information about you, your computer habits and personal information back to their creators.
When it comes to spyware detected on computer here are 8 things you need to look for.
1. Probably one of the first things you will notice is your computers performance begins to suffer. Spyware and adware will affect the speed with which you surf the internet, pages will load slower, and your programs won't work as they used to, taking longer to open and in some cases they won't work at all causing system crashes.
2. New tool bars that appear suddenly on your web browser that you know you didn't install. This is a sign that some spyware has been installed that monitors your web surfing habits.
3. One of the more annoying signs of spyware and adware are pop-up ads that show up on your browser that have nothing to do with what ever you are looking for. In many cases they appear even when you have your pop-up blocker turned on.
4. If you notice that your settings have been changed, whether within your programs, files or browser options, that’s another sign to watch for, especially if you reset them and they don’t remain that way upon closing and re-opening the files/programs or after completely restarting your PC.
5. If your PC seems to be possessed and is doing things on its own without user input there is a good chance you have some nasty spyware installed. Opening and closing programs, the DVD player door opening and closing are some more extreme examples of this.
6. When strange things such as undeliverable e-mails or e-mails that were sent from your account that you did not send appear in your inbox and sent folder you may have some form of spyware or even a virus on your computer.
7. Another thing to watch for is what your computer and modem are doing when you are not using it. If lights are flashing and blinking and your hard drive is making continuous noise there is a good chance that some sort of malware is responsible.
8. Identity theft can also be a sign of a spyware adware infection. The worst thing that could happen is if someone actually does acquire your personal information and uses it to steal from you by claiming your identity. If you receive a credit card bill or bank statement containing unidentified activity, your computer is one of the first places you should look.
You first line of defense against spyware is to be careful when downloading anything from the internet. You also need to be wary of emails with attachments from unknown senders. Installing an anti-spyware software program is a good idea as well, particularly if you have any of the signs of spyware detected on your computer.
