Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300DL – Desktop Color Laser Printer
In its day, the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300DL's original price of $799 was extremely affordable for a color laser printer of any sort. Times have changed some, but the 2300 is still a relevant device in many aspects including decent black and white print speed, high print resolution, and built in automatic duplexing.
With high quality color laser printing at resolutions of up to 2400 x 600 dots per inch, imagery, and even photos, will come out looking clean and bright. Color print speed is lacking, at only 4 pages per minute, which is very typical of a printer of the time, but for the same dollar amount as this unit's original price, a buyer could potentially own some of the most powerful desktop devices on the market. Its black and white print speed of 16 pages per minute is actually an acceptable speed for a small unit, even by today's standards.
A built in automatic duplexor is great when double sided output is required. While many printers today come with software that makes manual duplexing simple and easy, users who plan on printing two sided output on a regular basis would benefit from a unit with the process built in. Duplexing also helps to reduce paper usage, and therefore cost, by as much as half.
The Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300DL is strictly a wired printer, but it does come with a variety of connectivity options that include a parallel port, a USB port, and Base-TX Ethernet port for wired networking. Networking can be a crucial element when keeping your workgroup connected to at least one color print option, or simply for wiring up a household to a single device for cost purposes.
With a footprint that would seem cripplingly large by today's compact standards, the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300DL is certainly not the smallest color printer out there. It stands at over a foot tall at 15.4 inches and has an enormous footprint of 14 inches by 19.7 inches. With so much space taken up by such a limited device, it wouldn't be shocking to consider that many of these devices are probably out of commission by now, but for the die hard MagiColor owners, third party vendors do still carry plenty of toner cartridges with 1500 page duty cycles to keep the product going.
Standard SD random access memory installed in the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300DL totals 32 MBs, but up to 256 MBs of SDRAM can be added for a maximum memory total of 288 MBs. Its maximum monthly duty cycle rests at a comfortable 35,000 pages. Considering the print speed limitations of the device, this number seems like more than plenty in today's market.
Though the Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300DL shows many signs of age, this color duplexing unit still holds a few tricks up its sleeve, such as an enormous 700 page maximum storage capacity, though the standard paper tray is only 200 sheets. For those who can find one, the device might be worth taking a look at.
