When www.3.Com Will Turn From The Worst To The Best Mobile Phone Network
I'm not joking, www.3.com are going form one of the worst to one of the best mobile phone and broadband companies in the UK. Can Three, who came so late to the party, become the king of mobile telecoms within 3 years?
Seriously, let me explain what tricks www.3.com has up their sleeve. The telecoms giant Hutchinson Whampoa is the owner of 3 and is famous for blowing a load of cash on the 3G licenses 10 years ago. Wouldn't you know it, video calling never took off! Only now the need to be online is real and growing!Their massive investment in 3G and now 3.5G (HSDPA) is finally paying dividends as they channel more and more data through the internet at miniscule prices compared to traditional telephony.
The awards just keep on coming in 2009 following a strong year in 2008 where www.3.com repeatedly took home the top awards including best value and best overall. www.3.com is building a network specifically designed to carry data. Their current deals outshine the competition in most respects.Even with a pay-as-you-go SIM only deal (cost: £0.00) once you top up you get unlimited 3-to-3 mobile phone calls, unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls to other Skype users across the globe, free texts, unlimited Windows Live Messenger Chat, and more. The contract deals are even better, but I wont go in to that here.All the devices they sell are internet ready. This means applications such as VOIP, instant messenger and social networking can be given away at little cost while being worth a great deal to the consumer.
You will see this applies to the new fad of USB dongles allowing internet access on the go as data can be sold at prices that are very reasonable to both 3 and the consumer. The 3 Skype phone is a magnificent example of 3 being very innovative in service provision. It also is it's committed to lowering prices across the board.I'm sure the other networks could see the technology but didn't want to lower their margins from 30p/min down to sub 1p/min using Skype. Making changes to the regulations that govern the industry is one of the main tasks of 3 at the moment.
3.Com are different in that they are entirely Internet focused. Getting rid of the old regulation will mean they're method of using the Internet to route all traffic will be even more cost effective. The regulation is from the 19th century and needs to be updated in light of the Internet. Currently, calls are charged by the minute and other services added on top. This is expensive and doesn't provide good value. A flat fare would be better for everyone and this can be accomplished by removing the wholesale price restrictions known as Mobile Termination Rates. www.3.com are currently petitioning to have the law changed to make it better for them and for us. More than 100,000 people have signed the 'Terminate the Rate' petition and hopefully this will further 3's ability to provide even cheaper data access in to the new decade.
