If your USB mouse freezes suddenly on screen, you should fix it depending on its specific symptoms.

First, if the mouse can not move when you haven't used it for a little while, but it is available again by reinserting it to the USB port, well then don't worry, your laptop and mouse don't have any trouble at all. It is the default USB power management in Windows XP that causes this failure, and you can solve it by readjusting the power management setting.

Step 1 Go to Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager to open the Device Manager sheet.

Step 2 Double-click Universal Serial Bus Controllers to extend its list.

Step 3 Find out USB Root Hub and double-click it.

Step 4 Choose the Power Management tab and cancel the tick mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power, after that click OK.

Then your mouse won't fail to move again.

Second, if your USB mouse can not return to normal after you unplug and plug it in the USB port again, there are several possibilities:

One, your mouse is broken, and you need to repair it or change a new one.

Two, the PS/2 port is damaged.

Then change your motherboard if it is still in the guarantee period; if not, repair this port or replace it.

Three, hardware conflicts

Is there any interrogation mark or exclamatory mark beside some device in the Device Manager, sometimes resolve this problem device and your mouse will work properly again.
