Viewsat V-Link Coming
There is no stopping Viewsat. It just got better with V-Link. V-Link is slowly but surely making its way to your local FTA dealer, eBay or what have you. Priced reasonably at $59.99, it works with all versions of Viewsat like Platinum Extreme, PRO, 7000 PVR, Ultra, Ultra-lite, 9000 HD and Viewsat MAX.
Every Viewsat FTA Receiver comes with a serial port on the back of the receiver. The Dongle connects to the serial port, and should remain connected during the entire period of television viewing. And why only when you are watching tv, you would be well advised to let it remain connected at all times. It has very low power intake and will not show up on your bill and the heat it generates is negligible.
V-Link is a step ahead of the IKS ( Internet Key Sharing) , designed by a privately operating Viewsat team. The IKS is a free service, but soon a card-sharing method will be in place, letting multiple systems view the FTA channels. Once this stabilized service is offered, viewers will have to pay monthly or annual fees.
The V-Link is connected via a serial port, thus enhancing the connection between your computer, the hardware (the Dongle) and the port. The internet has to be connected from your V-Link receiver to your modem or router.
The method of receiving the updates is still anybody's guess. You will probably have to use the loader on your computer. You can load the files with your V-Link being connected via USB to the serial cable which in turn is connected to your computer. You can have more updated information on this from Good FTA .
This process has to be undergone at least once to be able to configure the IP/Server address along with port numbers
The Viewsat viewer's wait for the V-Link seems to be coming to a close. You will soon have the luxury of watching Viewsats again, without buying a new receiver. Chances are that IKS units will enter the market in a big way. With a new loader program and a stepwise guide, you should be on your way to uncomplicated V-Link viewing.
