LCD Screen Repair

The laptop LCD screen repair is not as difficult as one may think. Remember practice makes perfect, it will get easier if you do it often. There are several things to consider if you are a do it yourself-er and would like to take on the challenge of taking apart your laptop in hopes of swapping out the LCD screen.

This could be a big challenge because every notebook or laptop is put together a little bit differently and when you start taking apart the plastic and getting to the screen itself could be difficult. A very tricky part in taking apart your laptop is needing to know where to pry the plastic, since not all the laptops have plastic snaps and you do not want to damage your laptop any more.

Every laptop snaps together differently. The top case of some laptops or notebooks needs to come off to get to the screen assembly. Depending on the notebook or laptop the keyboard need to come off. To get to the screen hinges in some laptops or notebooks its required to take out the DVD drive.

Once you get over the fear of opening up the laptop, replacing the LCD screen is a relatively easy task. The LCD is very thin and you have to take extra care when handling it. There is an area on the top rear that has "do not touch" warnings all over it. Heed these warnings! This is a very sensitive area so treat it as such, if you finger were to brush this area the screen would not be damaged.

There are 2 cables that you will be working with - the data cable which provides the signal to the LCD and the back-light cable that gets plugged into the inverter (the small circuit board that sits on the bottom of the LCD screen).

The cables are taped and routed nicely around the screen. It is very important to use anti-static tape when attaching your new screen on.

Now do the above steps in reverse and you got yourself a new working LCD screen.
