Touch screen LCD: a modern innovation
Touch screen LCD is the epitome of great innovation in the realm of technology. There are basically two types of displays. The first kind of display is the Cathode Ray Tube or the CRT, which is the conventional one. The other one is Liquid Crystal Display, or what is commonly known as LCD. It is a more modern kind of display technology. People are more familiar with the Cathode Ray Tube which was used in the good old television set. However, LCD is the latest technology in vogue.
Although, it’s a more new type of technology, it has already created ripples in the field of display technology. There are lots of advantages that come with this kind of technology since it saves both space and energy. As compared to the conventional CRT technology, this is more efficient and compact. Some if its other advantages over the CRT display are discussed below.
Advantages of Touch screen LCD display over the CRT display
The CRT Touch screen display is the established predecessor in this case. Whereas the touch screen LCD display is new. However both are widely different from each other owing to the absolutely divergent technologies. The touch screen LCD has an edge over the CRT touch screen display, in terms of size. LCD monitors are quite lightweight and compact. In the context of space occupancy, it is said that an LCD touch screen takes up only one-third of the space as compared to that of a same sized CRT touch screen.
Earlier, only touch screen CRT monitors were available in 17-inch diagonal sizes. But now, LCD touch screens are available in sizes of 15 and 17 inches as well. Because of the flatness of the LCD Touch screens, the viewing area is also much larger when compared to a CRT monitor. This is demonstrated by the fact that in a 17-inch CRT monitor, the viewing area is only abut 16 inches while in an LCD monitor, the viewing area is full 17 inches.
Disadvantages of touch screen LCD
In spite of some great features and advantages of a touch screen LCD, there is one problem. That is, it does not display all colors. Besides, it is also unable to display multiple resolutions as well as it is done by CRT touch screens.
However, despite such limitations, people prefer LCD touch screens. In fact, these days, many people opt for LCD touch screens only, be it for their television sets, computer screens or even mobile phones.
