Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 - Future-Proof MacBook Pro
If it's not broke, don't fix it, which is exactly what Apple has done with the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 laptop's design. Featuring the same cool aluminum uni-body chassis of its 2009 predecessor the laptop looks as great as it always did. Packing in a 15.4-inch display the laptop offers plenty of real-estate. However, the laptop retains the same normal sized chiclet-style keyboard as other Apple laptops (no numeric keypad). This makes for plenty of space left over for the large glass-covered track-pad and very comfortable typing experience.

The main difference between the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 and its 2009 version is that it now uses an Intel Core i7 M620 processor and a higher-end Nvidia GT 330M discrete graphics to go with Intel's standard GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics. With 4GB of DDR3 memory and a 500GB hard disk drive, the laptop is very stable, very fast and very responsive. At 5.5 pounds the laptop is still more or less the same weight but the newer components offer better performance and overall energy efficiency.
This is mainly shown by the fact that battery life is much better than its predecessor. While the 2009 version only got about five hours or so on a single charge, the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 gets about six hours of battery life. While this may not seem like much, bear in mind that the components for the 2010 laptop are several times more powerful than the 2009 version. The battery is non-removable though while other ports and connections remain the same with a mini displayport, a Firewire 800 port, two USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet LAN port, an SD card reader, stereo speakers and audio jacks. Connectivity is still the same powerful 802.11 b/g/n wireless wi-fi and Bluetooth while the laptop also packs in a DVD burner for good measure.
Performance for the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 is definitely the highlight of the 2010 revamp as it can now handle everything. While you may have to tweak down the details and settings somewhat, the new discrete graphics allows you to play almost any game in the market. In addition to this, Apple have included an automatic graphics switching feature which switches the graphics to the discrete graphics when needed and switches back down to the more power-saving integrated graphics. The track-pad also offers inertial scrolling much like the iPhone and iPad, increasing the number of multi-touch controls at the same time.
Overall, the Apple MacBook Pro Spring 2010 is an awesome component revamp for an already awesome laptop. While it may lack HDMI and Blu-ray it more than makes up for it with a great design, awesome performance and many more easy to use features. This makes it a great future-proofed MacBook Pro laptop to get, especially if you're planning to stay with just one laptop for the next three to five years.
