How to Throw a Successful Poker Night
There are few things better then poker night. Getting out of the house on a work night, spending some times with some good friends and taking them for all their money, or they take you for all you had. Either way it's all fun in the end.
Even though just getting together with the guys will be a good time tonight is poker night and its supposed to be about the poker. How you prepare for poker night can make all the difference between an ok poker night and a great poker night that will be talked about for years to come.
Here are some things that you must have at a decent poker game.
· Several decks of cards. The reason for more then one deck of cards should be obvious. During game play it is common for players to eat and drink and the cards may get dirty and with multiple decks on hand they can easily be swapped out
· Poker chips. When purchasing poker chips don’t cheap out. I have found that the cheap plastic poker chips really take away from the game. There is really nothing wrong with them but the feel of a good heavy clay chip like in the casinos just gives the game a feeling like you are playing in a high stakes poker tournament.
· A Poker table. You do not have to go all out on the table. Many people like the feeling of having the green felt and the little trays to put your winnings, but really all you need is a table.
· Food, the food you serve can make ort break the game. Pizza is probably the most common poker food. This is because with a quick call to the local pizza shop you can get a few hot pizzas is a relatively short time. Pizza is not a bad food for poker. It can be eaten with one hand and can be placed on a table next to the poker table so people are not constantly getting up. I have been to many poker nights where someone decided to make chili or something that needs to be kept hot, and every 5 minutes or so someone had to get up and interrupt the game to get some more food. This can be a game killer. Whatever you decide to serve your guests make sure that it can be served near the poker table, not too greasy and can be eaten with one hand while playing poker.
· Alcohol, lets face it what is a night of poker with the guys without a few drinks. This does not mean that everyone needs to get hammered. The drunker you get the worse our decision making will get and the more people drink the more bathroom breaks you will have to take. So by all means serve alcohol, but try not to ruin the game with it.
Keeping these tips in mind when you are planning your poker night will greatly improve the quality of your game and help keep the game flowing making it more enjoyable for you and your friends.
