How to Keep Your Computer Cool
Computer repair or replacement can be expensive, but with a few regular maintenance routines and some simple tips on caring for your computer, you can save a bundle. Computer Geeks and RadioShack offer some helpful items that will keep your system healthy, save you a fortune in repair bills and the frustration of down time, and prevent the loss of important documents and pictures from a computer crash.
Heat is one of the most common culprits when it comes to system crashes; a system overheating can greatly reduce the lifetime expectancy of your machine. Your computer runs warm and the processor inside does normally heat up quickly, but if you familiarize yourself with signs that your system is overheating, you can increase the lifetime of the system and avoid unnecessary repair bills.
How To Prevent Overheating
To avoid overheating your computer and its processor, there are some simple tips you should follow. Below are a couple of things you can do to ensure your system does not overheat.
Remove Side Cover
If you notice that your system is running too hot even if the processor fans inside are working, it is a good idea to remove the side cover to allow the trapped heat inside to be released. Be sure that when you remove the cover, you do not have the computer sitting anywhere that it could be knocked over or where someone could accidentally touch components inside the case. This can cause damage to themselves or the fragile parts inside.
Keep The System Clean
Your computer is a haven for dust another particles, no matter how clean your home or office is you are sure to have some unwanted dust build up inside your machine. The processor fans and the computer case fans can become clogged with dust and cause them to malfunction. If the fans are not working properly, the system will be at a high risk for overheating. Be sure that you use a can of air to spray out dust from your computer on a regular basis, especially if you are leaving the case cover off, there will be plenty of dust that needs to be removed. Never spray out the machine before you turn it off and unplug it from the wall, and avoid static discharge by grounding yourself. This is done by touching the side of the case before ever touching components inside the system.
Keep Your Room Cool
Keep the room that your computer is in cool; in the hotter months, it can become humid and too hot for your computer to work properly. The fans become overworked as they try to cool the system down, and you run the risk of losing them altogether. Use fans near the computer to help keep it cool and be sure that the fans inside the machine are working. You should be able to hear them, but if they sound like they are spinning too fast, you might need to take some precautions to cool the room and the system down further before more damage occurs.
