The whole idea of using a laptop is the convenience it provides of mobility. Almost everyone who uses a laptop has experienced the frustration of running out of power. And ultimately, we find that we need power the most right in the middle of important work or the most inconvenient time. 90 minutes is the average life of a laptop battery, which is often not enough time to complete much of your work. One option of power is the external battery. Most of these external batteries as such that their wattage and connection type is not specific for the type of laptop; allowing you to use them on most common notebooks. Common brands being Acer, Sony, Gateway, IBM, HP, Lenovo, and Dell. These external batteries can often extend the life of your laptop as much as 10 hours; now you can surely get some serious work done in 10 hours as opposed to the average 90 minutes.
Many of us may have the image in our head of an external battery being heavy and inconvenient to lug around in our laptop bag. Battery technology has come a long way. Many of these batteries weigh less then 2 lbs averaging from 1.5 to 3.5 lbs. Although as with anything, you get what you pay for; meaning these lightweight power solutions can be pretty expensive. Ranging from low $100's to more than $500, be prepared to spend quite a bit for this convenience. Expectantly, the higher priced batteries are going to give you more battery life then the less expensive versions. Even though they can be expensive, think about how much it would cost you if unable to finish an important work item when you really need it because you run out of laptop power.
When looking to purchase an external battery, be sure that it will be compatible with your notebook. Just like corded power supplies, most universal power sources come with numerous adapter tips which allow them to connect to most major brands. That's the main thing you'll want to look for when purchasing; that the item has the right tip to plug into your notebook.
When researching options for you laptop power supply, don't rule out the battery option. Although they can be relatively expensive compared to normal power supplies, these external batteries can add massive mobile life to your notebook.
